Ducati Desmosedici win the coveted 'Best of the best - Sport Bike' award

Ducati Desmosedici has won the prestigious Robb Report "Best of the Best- Sport Bike" award for the second year in a row.
The Robb Report "Best of the Best" awards are given to objects of desire on an annual basis; with the Sport Bike category highlighting the pinnacle of performance motorcycle technology. Ducati has been the proud recipient of this honor for two years running; with the award going to the ground breaking 1098 S Superbike in 2007, and now the Desmosedici RR- the world's first Moto GP derived production bike.
Unveiled at the Italian Grand Prix in 2006; the Desmosedici RR can be considered the most exotic performance motorcycle on the planet. With 200 horsepower on tap and such precious materials as magnesium, titanium and stainless steel draped in carbon fiber bodywork; it represents the epitome of what a sport bike should be: fast, lightweight, and aerodynamic. The June issue of Robb Report reports: "As a complete package of desirability, the Desmosedici RR is without peer."
"The Desmosedici RR is that rare thing; an extraordinary fantasy made real." Says Michael Lock, CEO of Ducati North America. "The Best of the Best is a fitting title for this Italian creation and we are proud to be able to bring it to life."

Mystery VW GTI Concept

VW has unveiled a mystery GTI concept, and hasn't provided any info about the car. The visually appealing exterior has a widebody styling kit with lowered suspension to enhance driving dynamics. There are two huge trapezoidal exhaust tips surrounded by a few large wire mesh screens at the rear. And to keep the performance nuts excited there are nitrous oxide tanks in the boot. The car is done in black and orange and the Lambo Style Doors complete the stunning look for the car, even though they are functionally pointless. The seating layout is 2+1, making space for a very loud audio system at the rear.
VW hasn't publicized the car much, which means that it's only a show car. But being the optimists we are, we'll keep our fingers crossed.

VW Scirocco GT24 is hot!

The VW Scirocco GT24 presented at the GTI Meet 2008 in Austria produces 325 bhp. The power is derived from a 2-litre four cylinder turbocharged direct injection engine, producing a peak torque of 340 Nm at a low 2,100 rpm. The power will be transferred to the wheels Via Audi's famous DSG transmission. The car will first face the famous 24-Hour Nürburgring race next Saturday.
Even though the car is not as fast as some other cars on the circuit, the drivers behind its wheel definitely are. The list comprises of Hans-Joachim Stuck, Carlos Sainz and Ulrich Hackenberg, Volkswagen Chairman for Development. And it's really the enduring drivers who matter in such races.

Honda Cub sales hit a mind-boggling 60 million units

As of the end of April Honda has sold over 60 million Honda Cubs.
When Super Cub was originally launched, the 2-stroke engine was the mainstream power plant for motorcycles. However, the first generation Honda Super Cub C100 was equipped with an innovative and high-performance 50cc 4-stroke engine which was highly economical and durable. Since the introduction of the first generation model, the basic design and concept have remained virtually unchanged, and the unique style has been passed on even to current models.
In regions outside of Japan, such as Asia, the Honda Cub series has evolved to accommodate the unique culture and diversifying customer needs in each country.
Exports of Super Cub began in 1959 with the first destination being the U.S., and production in regions outside of Japan began in 1961 in Taiwan, with production based on component parts sets. The Honda Cub series is currently being produced in 15 countries around the world.

Axon City Car - the 100 mpg wonder

The Axon City Car is a British project that aspires to create a 100mpg, 70g/km CO2 vehicle by 2011. The wind tunnel optimised shell of the car has been developed by Axon in association with Warwick University. Made of carbon-fibre composite and plastic, it weighs a super light 400kg. The Axon doesn't intend to employ any techno gadgetry to get those miraculous mpg figures. It plans to combine light weight with an efficient engine to attain its goal. With a 500cc twin producing 40bhp developed by Ptech Engines, the car keeps the cubic capacity to a bare minimum to improve efficiency. The engine will meet Euro 5 emissions standards and will be easy on maintenance.
The government is partly supporting the project but it'll take at least two years for the car to see production. The call will also need to be homologated and become crash worthy before it hits the road.

Is this the future Fiat Topolino?

This may just be the future Fiat Topolino. Poblete along with the British magazine Auto Express has come out with this artist's impression of the small Fiat. The car will help the Italian manufacturer lower its group CO2 emissions, heighten its mpg figures and, of course increase its sales numbers.
The new car will be a three seater and less than 3 meters long. The seating arrangement is quite similar in concept to the one offered by the Toyota IQ. It'll be a rear-engined car, so there'll be a considerable room for a loading bay as well.
The car may share its platform with the 500, and will most probably be powered by a 900cc turbo charged engine producing 105 bhp, found also in the Panda supermini. A naturally aspirated version of the engine producing a65 PS will also be offered. we would love to see the charming little car hit the roads every son.

Top Gear Season XI is On!

Top Gear will be hitting the TV screens soon with its eleventh season. If sources are to be believed, this season will include a German Top Gear episode with the return of Sabine and the Audi RS6 versus a suicidal skier. There will be a EVO X versus Impreza shootout and a mega car will take on a mega opponent in Japan. Then you probably have a Koenigsegg CCX against three Bugatti Veyron's in the deserts around Abu Dhabi.
For the Americans, there's something to cheer abou he series may not have been taken off as most thought.

Audi TT Clubsport official pictures out

Audi has officially revealed the production TT Clubsport Quattro. The car will have its worldwide debut at the Wörthersee Tour in Austria from May 21st.
The open top, low cockpit is surely the biggest highlight of the car. The A-pillars are low, giving the car a sporty, curvaceous look, but the car has high-rise rollover bars for protection in case of a roll-over.
Audi are known to create some of the best car interiors and the TT Clubsport is no exception. Liberal use of aluminium with bucket seats and a sporty steering wheel borrowed from the TT jazzes things up.
The car is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo petrol producing 300 bhp. The engine is mated with a S tronic duel clutch transmission. We are expecting a limited production run of 50 to 100 cars

Schumi crashes out of German superbike race!

The seven time F1 world champ Michael Schumacher didn't start his bike racing career (?) too well. Starting at the back of the grid, having qualified 39th out of over 40 riders, it wasn't the kind of start Schumi is used to. He finished the first race well, improving 11 positions to 28th. In race two, however, Schumi crashed out while trying to make his way up the group. His team mate Martin Bauer won both the races.

Bizzarrini is striking back with this mind-blowing Scuderia concept!

A group of people are planning to revive Bizzarrini, the famous Italian brand that quietly died in 1974. German designer Stefan Schulze, along with Alan Mertens of Galmer Engineering, Arbitrage Cars and Giotto Bizzarrini (of course) plans to revive the Italian Brand Bizzarrini with this stunning concept called P538. Well, if this car were to hit the production line, we’ll bet our heads on the success of the project.

The supremely seductive car that you see above is slated to sport a 500+ bhp V8 engine from a LS7 Corvette, mounted in the middle of the car. The weight will be logic defying low – a featherlight 800kg for such a powerful car! And if you aren’t a big fan of open-top motoring, the P538 as the car is codenamed, will also have hard top version.

Stefan Schulze designed the gorgeous Panthera concept, based on the Lamborghini Gallardo, while Bizzarrini designed the original P538, which was as drop-dead gorgeous as this concept. Whoa! What a design people! Probably the best we’ve seen in the past few years. We’re sold!
Check this space for pictures and info on the fabulous earlier creation by these master designers. Drool over the pictures for as long you want, you'll never get an eyeful! WHAT A DESIGN!

Wraps off the Alfa Romeo Brera S

Alfa Romeo took help of Prodrive of the UK to build this special, nimbler and more fun version of the Alfa Brera – the Brera S. According to Nicholas Bernard, marketing director, Alfa Romeo UK, the exercise is not to increase the power output of the car. It’s meant to put down the power produced by the stock engine more efficiently and make a better steering, better handling car that ‘shrinks’ around the driver for a great driving experience on winding roads. The two engine options include a 2.2-litre JTS producing 186 bhp and a 3.2litre V6 producing 260 bhp.
Prodrive used Eibach coil springs and Bilstein dampers for the S version of the Brera. The Brera S sports light weight 19-inch wheels, hollow anti-roll bars, aluminum suspension components and the ride height is lowered by 10mm. Buy this one before it flies off the shelf like all those 8C Competiziones!

Ferris Bueller's Day off - The Ferrari That Chris Evans bought

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the car that stars in the news following this video. The car sold for more 11 million dollars ( Rs 4 crore )!

Chris Evans buys an old Ferrari for $11 million!

Celebrity DJ Chris Evans Certainly paid €7,040,000 ($10.9 million) for a 1961 Ferrari. He bought the 250 GT SWB California Spyder at RM Auctions. The car was originally expected to fetch around €3.5 million, but in a 30 minute long war of bids the price soared to double the initial expectations.
Designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti, the car is powered by a 2,953cc V12 engine that produces 280bhp.

Ferrari 599 GTB burns itself!

We all know that all Ferraris are searing, burning hot, but the expression seems to have taken a literal meaning if you consider this incident. An achingly beautiful black 599 GTB Fiorano burnt all by itself recently. The poor fellow who was driving the car didn’t even own it. The driver first heard a weird sound and the next thing he saw was smoke and fire emanating from the bonnet. Martin Bullen who was driving the car, works at a supercar garage in Banstead, UK. The £250,000 (Rs 2-crore) car was a write-off! Thankfully the vehicle was still fully covered under warranty.

New Skoda Superb - first impressions

The innovative boot makes the Superb both a hatch as well as a sedan!

The new Skoda Superb, first shown at the Geneva Motor Show is all set to hit the road across the world, including India. The earlier version of the car, though quite accomplished for the practical, sensible guy, wasn’t quite attractive, fast or fun enough to sell in good numbers. The new car, though not exactly very fast or beautiful to look at, is still a huge improvement over the earlier variant as a lot of first ride reports on various automotive websites suggest. The new car handles better, looks better and comes kitted with high-levels of equipment - seven airbags, dual-zone climate control and a top-of-the-line music system all standard. We are non-committal about the exterior of the car, it doesn’t look very beautiful, but isn’t too bad either.
The car will be powered by an all-new 170PS 2.0-litre common-rail turbodiesel developed by the parent VW group. Reports suggest that it’s a smooth, efficient and powerful engine with a linear power delivery. Another popular option will be the 160PS 1.8-litre TSI (turbo) engine. Both the engines are mated with a six-speed manual transmission, but the twin-clutch DSG ‘box is really the one to go for. The auto tranny features six gears for the diesel engine and seven for petrol. A 3.6-litre 260PS FSI mill with an all-wheel drive system is also available for the smooth assassins.
